Update from Cleveland Heights City Manager Tanisha R. Briley - May 6, 2020

I am excited to announce that yesterday the final step was taken to make the Top of the Hill development a reality. While the City remains focused on the challenges the COVID-19 crisis has created for our entire community in the weeks and months ahead, we are excited to be able to move forward with this project. It represents a major new investment and positions the City for additional growth and development in the future. It will also create or sustain important construction jobs with the provisions to hire locally and pay a living wage.

You will be receiving your Cleveland Heights utility bill in the coming days. We understand that during this challenging time some may be facing financial hardships. If you are experiencing difficulty, please call 216-291-5995 (and leave a message) so we can discuss options with you.

Census Reminder/Update: If you have yet to complete your Census questionnaire, a reminder postcard is on its way to your mailbox, courtesy of the U. S. Census. As of last Friday, the country’s Census response rate stood at 54.6% and Cuyahoga County’s rate at 55.7%. Cleveland Heights is lagging behind many of our neighboring cities and millions of dollars are at stake for our City. It takes just 10 minutes to complete your Census questionnaire (by mail, phone or internet).

Limited SNAP Online Ordering: To reduce Coronavirus exposure while grocery shopping, Cuyahoga Job and Family Services has announced several retailers will provide an option for online ordering using SNAP benefits. Curbside pickup will be available with payment made inside the store or, where available, with a mobile point-of-sale device curbside. Participating stores include Giant Eagle and Walmart:

  • Giant Eagle: All locations in Ohio (online account required) - Minimum purchase amount is $35
  • Walmart: All locations in Ohio (online account required) - Minimum purchase amount is $30

Governor DeWine announced the phased reopening of the state’s economy on May 1 and that he has been working with the owners of diners and chain restaurants to determine safe opening procedures. “Our restaurant group has been working very hard, and they are nearly finished with their plan,” DeWine announced on Monday. “Within the next several days, we’ll be rolling out the protocol for reopening restaurants. We’ll also be able to announce a reopening date,” he added.

Lt. Governor Jon Husted also announced that the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles will reopen in late May. Each BMV site will have to create its own health and safety protocols to protect visitors and the bureau is expanding its “get in line online” platform to encourage Ohioans to check their BMV online.

More reopening information is available at Responsible Restart Ohio. The CDC also offers guidance on reopening.
