The purpose of the Fire Prevention Bureau is to conduct and oversee annual fire inspections of all buildings and businesses located with the City of Cleveland Heights. The Bureau enforces codes found in the Ohio Fire Code. It also uses other recognized standards, such as the Ohio Building Code and The National Fire Protection Agency (NFPA), to ensure fire safety compliance is being followed in every building within Cleveland Heights.
Fire Extinguishers & Fire Safety Training
The Fire Prevention Bureau conducts Fire Extinguishers and Fire Safety training, upon request, for residents and business owners.
Inspection of Life & Fire Safety Requirements
The Fire Prevention Bureau conducts and/or monitors the inspection of life and fire safety requirements for foster child care occupancies, home day care occupancies, child day care centers, adult group/foster homes, respite homes, adoptive homes and residential adult care facilities.
The Bureau conducts fire investigation of all fires occurring in Cleveland Heights. Investigations include determining origin and cause of the fire, and submitting a complete report to the Ohio State Fire Marshal.
Free Smoke Detectors
Free smoke detectors (verification of residency is required) are available to Cleveland Heights residents through programs sponsored by the American Red Cross and by the Cleveland Heights Firefighters Union, Local 402.
