What kind of amenities are featured at the City's Community Center?
Located at One Monticello Boulevard and Mayfield Road, the Cleveland Heights Community Center boasts:
  • two full-size basketball courts;
  • a fitness center with nautilus equipment, treadmills, ellipticals, crosstrainers, recumbent and upright bikes, and eight television screens;
  • two ice rinks including an Olympic-sized North Rink;
  • a four-lane elevated track;
  • a Senior Activity Center; and
  • several activity rooms.
What are the benefits of having a Cleveland Heights Recreation ID card and what does one cost?
In order to use Cleveland Heights parks and recreation facilities, it is necessary to have a Recreation ID card. Benefits of an ID card include:
  • Use of the Community Center track, Fitness Center and basketball courts (with the purchase of a Field House Pass)
  • Reduced rates for all Community Center classes, workshops, programs and field trips
  • Reduced rates for public ice skating sessions and other skating programs
  • Free use of our lighted tennis courts, our outdoor basketball courts (admission to outdoor basketball courts only may also be gained by presenting a current Cleveland Heights High School ID card), and our skate park
  • Use of six outdoor picnic shelters (permit needed, $25 fee)
  • Free use of three wading pools
  • Reduced admission for swimming and aquatics programs
  • Reduced rates for tennis lessons, youth sports programs and some adult sports programs
Cleveland Heights Recreation ID cards are only available to Cleveland Heights residents.
To purchase a Recreation ID card, you need:
  • $5.00 for the card (includes digital photo; therefore, cards must be purchased in person).
  • Proof of current residency - Photo ID (driver's license, state ID or passport); two other items (such as a recent utility bill, insurance bill, bank statement, mortgage bill, auto registration, phone bill, paycheck, paystub or mailing from the Cleveland Heights-University Heights School District). Students in grades K-12 that register independently must bring a current progress report in addition to two pieces of mail.
NOTE: When Cleveland Heights residents purchase a Recreation ID card for $5.00, they have the following two options:
  1. with an ID card, a resident can pay $6.00 per day to use the Field House, or
  2. with an ID card, a resident may purchase a Field House pass (see below).
What 'proof of current residency ' is accepted in order to purchase a Cleveland Heights Recreation ID card?
Acceptable proof of Cleveland Heights residency includes:
  • Photo ID (driver's license, state ID or passport)

What are the benefits of purchasing a Community Center Field House Pass?
Cleveland Heights residents/Recreation ID card holders who purchase an annual Field House Pass receive unlimited usage of the Field House for one year. This includes daily access to the Fitness Center and its nautilus equipment, treadmills, crosstrainers, ellipticals, recumbent and upright bikes, the track and the open gym. Cleveland Heights residents with Recreation ID cards who choose not to purchase a Field House Pass pay $6.00 (adult rate) per day to use the Field House.

What is the cost of purchasing a Community Center Field House ?
In order to purchase a Field House Pass, Cleveland Heights residents must first purchase a Recreation ID card, which costs $6.00. Once an ID card is purchased, residents can then purchase a Field House Pass (for unlimited usage of the Fitness Center, track and open gym for one year), for the following (2004) prices:

Youth Resident (K through age 11) $ 84.00
Youth resident (age 12 through HS or equiv) $110.00
Young Adult Resident (age 18-24)$165.00
Adult Resident (age 25-59)$192.00
Senior Resident (ages 60 and up)$ 99.00

NOTE: Non-Resident youth (which accounts only for children grades K-12 living in the Cleveland Heights-University Heights District) pay $210 for an annual Field House Pass. Also, Field House passholders may now bring up to two non-resident guests at a cost of $7 per guest. Recreation ID holders without a Field House pass may not bring guests.

If I do not purchase a Community Center Field House Pass, may I still use the Field House?
Cleveland Heights residents with Recreation ID cards who choose not to purchase a Field House Pass pay $5.00 (adult rate) per day to use the Field House.

As a Community Center Field House passholder, may I bring a guest to the Field House?
Field House passholders may bring up to two non-resident guests at a cost of $7 per guest. Recreation ID holders without a Field House pass may not bring guests.

What kind of general recreation and sports activities does the City have to offer?
The City's Parks & Recreation Department offers a variety of activities and programming to meet the needs of every Cleveland Heights resident.
  • Adult sports such as basketball leagues, ice hockey, softball leagues and tennis lessons are offered for both men and women.
  • Aquatics programs - swimming lessons for youth, adult and families; a diving team and synchronized swim team for youth; and lifeguard certification classes - take place in the summer months.
  • General recreation classes include yoga, Pilates, aerobics, women's self defense, karate, table tennis and a plethora of preschool/youth activities.
  • Developmental sports camps are held each summer for our community's youth, including basketball, lacrosse, field hockey, tennis, girls soccer and ice hockey.
  • Youth sports leagues are also popular, and feature basketball, baseball, girls softball and ice hockey.
  • Ice rink programs include skating lessons (adult, family, group, open and private), Pavilion Skating Club (figure skating - freestyle, dance, testing, competitions) and Youth Hockey (travel teams, recreational hockey, instructional camps, annual tournaments).

How many parks and playgrounds are located in the City?
The City of Cleveland Heights boasts six parks that feature countless amenities for residents to enjoy.
  • Cain Park located at Lee and Superior Roads, features a playground, skate park for skateboarders and roller bladers, a sledding hill, one full-size basketball court, six lighted tennis courts and an all-purpose pathway (visit www.cainpark.com for information about the municipally-owned and -operated summer performing arts center).
  • Caledonia Park, located at Ravine Road near Noble, offers a picnic shelter, playground and a multi-purpose field (with a small ballfield area). This park is shared by Cleveland Heights and East Cleveland.
  • Cumberland Park, located at Mayfield and Cumberland, features the Cleveland Heights Veterans Memorial, the Cleveland Heights Historical Center at Superior Schoolhouse, a swimming pool, wading pool, playground, picnic shelter, concession stand, two full-size basketball courts, a small ballfield and an all-purpose pathway.
  • Denison Park, located at Bluestone and Quarry, offers six lighted tennis courts, two full-sized basketball courts, a picnic shelter, playground, concession stand, a ballfield, a multi-purpose field and an all-purpose pathway.
  • Euclid Heights Tot Lot, located at Euclid Heights Boulevard and Hampshire, features a playground for tot-age children.
  • Forest Hill Park, located at Lee and Monticello Boulevards, offers four baseball/softball fields that are fenced-in and lighted, three picnic shelters, a playground, concession stand, multi-purpose field, six lighted tennis courts, an all-purpose pathway and a nature trail.

What kind of special events or activities does the Parks & Recreation Department sponsor?
A variety of special events are held each year for residents of Cleveland Heights. For the little ones in our community, the annual Spring Egg Hunt held in Forest Hill Park is a must. Our youth hockey players participate each year in the annual Raymond A. Robinson Memorial Tournament, and young swimmers in our Pool Programs entertain in the Cumberland Water Show each August. Runners, walkers and joggers of all ages participate in the Annual Anniversary Fun Run/Walk in the spring, and tennis enthusiasts - from juniors to seniors! - take part in the Cain Park Tennis Tournament each summer. Does the City provide any financial assistance for Parks & Recreation programming?
The City's Youth Recreation Fund offers scholarships on selected Cleveland Heights recreation activities to residents who meet income guidelines (those applying must provide proof of residency and documentation of restricted income). Programs and activities included through this fund include sports camps, sports leagues, swimming, ice skating and more. It is the goal of the Youth Recreation Fund to provide assistance to all who apply; however, all requests are subject to available funding. Call 216-691-7373 for more information or an application.

NOTE: Donations to the Youth Recreation Fund are welcome and are tax deductible. You may donate to the general scholarship fund or to a specific activity.
