  • Garbage for collection must be placed inside PLASTIC BAGS weighing no more than 40 pounds each. Weight limitations are established in the interest of employee safety and are strictly enforced.

  • Keep the plastic bags filled with garbage in TRASH CANS or containers with SECURE LIDS until the evening before your pickup day. It is best to keep the trash containers in the garage to keep animals from getting in them.

  • DO NOT PUT THE BAGS OUT BEFORE 7:00 PM THE EVENING BEFORE YOUR COLLECTION. Place the plastic bags filled with trash on your tree lawn near the curb after 7:00 pm the evening before your scheduled collection day, or before 7:00 am the day of your collection.

  • Do NOT put the trash CANS on the tree lawn, as then the trash will NOT be collected.

  • Plastic trash bags are available for purchase at the Treasury window on the entry level of City Hall, the Community Center or at area stores.

  • As a special service to our residents, the City picks up bulk items, appliances, furniture or mattresses at no charge. Put the items out on your tree lawn no earlier than 7:00 pm the evening before your regular collection day, but before 7:00 am on your regular collection day. However, in some cases, a fee may be charged when trash exceeds normal limits.

  • Preparation of large/bulk items:
    • Doors must be removed from all appliances and the items placed FLAT on the ground in a manner that prevents children and pets from climbing in or becoming locked inside before placing it outside for collection.
    • Large boxes and crates must be flattened and tied.
    • Furniture in good condition may be donated to organizations. Call 691-7300 for a list of charities.
    • Carpeting and padding must be neatly rolled or folded and placed on the tree lawn.
    • Tires must be separated from their rims.
    • Wood must be cut into four-foot lengths and tied securely into bundles with strong rope or twine. All nails must be removed or hammered flat to prevent injury.
    • Plaster and roofing materials (small amount) must be boxed or bagged and weigh no more than 40 pounds each.
  • Special pickups of refuse will be made on days other than the regular collection day upon request. Please notify the Public Works Department (216-691-7300) if you need a special pickup.

  • Put glass products and items with sharp edges in puncture-resistant containers (i.e. coffee cans, 2-liter bottles, heavy boxes) before putting them in the plastic refuse bag.

  • If refuse of any type is set out prior to the regular collection day with no arrangement made with the Public Works Department, a fine of $85 may be imposed for violation of City ordinances.

  • Items not collected:
    • Rocks, bricks, dirt, concrete
    • Explosives
    • Poisons
    • Gasoline in liquid form
    • Construction materials (large amount)
