Styrofoam may now be recycled! Look for a large recycling container in the Community Center parking lot (at the north end, off Monticello) labeled specifically for Styrofoam (Expanded Polystyrene).
The Styrofoam container only accepts blocks of Styrofoam used for packing large appliances, furniture and televisions that are less than 2 inches in thickness.
Non-Recyclable Styrofoam Items
Styrofoam materials that are not recyclable and should not be placed in this container include:
- Packing Peanuts
- Styrofoam Restaurant Takeout Containers
- Meat / Food Trays From Grocery Stores
- Styrofoam Plates and Cups
- Egg Cartons
Tetra Packs are recyclable, provided that they are be rinsed of all food residue and do not contain metallic layers such as aluminum which are found as:
- Part of an inside lining
- Sandwiched between the waxed surfaces of frozen food and some juice boxes
Car batteries are collected on regular collection days and recycled.
If you change your own automobile oil, the City will collect it on your regular collection day. Place the oil in a sealed container (milk jug, 2-liter bottle, etc.) and place it near your recyclables.
This oil will be used to heat the vehicle maintenance area of the Public Works garage, thus reducing natural gas costs.
As with used motor oil, place used cooking oil in a sealed container (milk jug, 2-liter bottle, etc.) and place it near your recyclables.
